Azarenka progresses into Italian Open doubles round two

MINSK, 13 May (BelTA) – Victoria Azarenka of Belarus and Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad Maia defeated Russians Veronika Kudermetova and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, 6-2, 6-3 to progress into the Italian Open doubles round two, BelTA has learned.

Last week the Belarusian-Brazilian duo won the doubles event in Madrid.

Aliaksandra Sasnovich and Sofia Kenin will face the Italian tandem of Angelica Moratelli and Camilla Rosatello in the round of Last 32.

Belarus’ world number 44 Aliaksandra Sasnovich lost to Croatia’s world number 24 Donna Vekic, 6-3, 3-6, 3-6, in the Italian Open second round. Aliaksandra Sasnovich defeated Canada’s world number 50 Leylah Fernandez of Canada, 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 6-3, in the opener.

Belarus’ world number 17 Victoria Azarenka will play world number 23 Madison Keys of the United States in the third round. Belarus’ world number 2 Aryna Sabalenka lost 6-7 (4-7), 2-6, to world number 134 Sofia Kenin of the United States in the opener.
