Minister: Brest will be a good host for 2nd CIS Games

BREST, 25 May (BelTA) – Brest will make a good host for the swimming and handball competitions at the 2nd CIS Games, Belarusian Sport and Tourism Minister Sergei Kovalchuk told the media on 25 May, BelTA has learned.

Sergei Kovalchuk attended an end-of-school ceremony at the Brest Oblast Olympic Reserve College. He said that the event coincided well with his trip to Brest to take stock of the preparations for the 2nd CIS Games. “Brest has a good tradition in the organization of various kinds of events. The city has repeatedly hosted international competitions. I have no doubt that Brest will make a good host for the swimming and handball competitions. There are great traditions in both sports here,” Sergei Kovalchuk said.

Not only organizational issues of the Games are discussed in Brest these days. Specialists are checking on the sport arenas, which are going to host the competitions, and hotels. “First of all, attention is paid to the organization of the competition venues, accommodation and catering services. We do not forget about other aspects, including transportation, medical care and security. All these issues have been touched upon during a tour of the venues today. We have two months ahead of the event. Some things will have to be corrected. I think that these points are insignificant. Brest and the specialists who work here are competent enough to hold such events,” the minister said.

The swimming competitions will be held at Brest Palace of Aquatics, the handball tournament – at Victoria Sports Palace.
