MINSK, 29 April (BelTA) – Belarus’ world number 2 Aryna Sabalenka outlasted world number 183 Robin Montgomery of the United States, 6-1, 6-7(5-7), 6-4 to book her return to the Mutua Madrid Open Round of 16, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian will next face world number 15 Danielle Collins of the United States. In the second round Aryna Sabalenka saw off Poland’s world number 48 Magda Linette, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. In the final of the previous edition Aryna Sabalenka bear Iga Swiatek and proved stronger over Ashleigh Barty of Australia in 2021.
Belarus’ world number 26 Victoria Azarenka defeated world number 67 Tatjana Maria of Germany, 6-3, 6-1, and then lost to Spain’s world number 55 Sara Sorribes Tormo, 6-7 (0-7), 3-6.
