Belarusian tennis players to compete at German Open

MINSK, 20 June (BelTA) – Belarusian tennis players are expected to open their Grass Court Championships Berlin campaign on 20 June, BelTA has learned.

Former world number one Victoria Azarenka of Belarus, currently World No.19, will face fellow Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich (World No.70). Belarus’ world number two Aryna Sabalenka will open against Russia’s world number 1243 Vera Zvonareva.

Belarus’ Lidizya Marozava and Brazil’s Ingrid Martins reached the Birmingham Classic quarterfinal seeing off Slovakia’s Tereza Mihalikova and Miriam Kolodziejova of the Czech Republic, 7-6 (7-2), 6-4. Belarus’ Iryna Shymanovich and Oksana Kalashnikova of Georgia lost to Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic and Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk, 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 6-10 in the round of Last 16.

The competitions in Birmingham and Berlin will be over on 25 June.
