Belarus’ Iryna Kurachkina earns Olympic berth in wrestling

Thanks to a high seed in the 57kg category Belarus’ Iryna Kurachkina kicked off her UWW European OG Qualifier run from the quarterfinal where she proved stronger against Russia’s Olga Khoroshavtseva, BelTA has learned.

Iryna Kurachkina then defeated Alina Hrushyna Akobiia of Ukraine 6-3 in the semifinal to secure the 2024 Paris berth. The upcoming Olympic Games in France will be the second ones in Iryna’s Kurachkina’s sporting career. At the previous Games in Tokyo the Belarusian won silver. Iryna Kurachkina has also won three gold medals at the European championships and two bronze medals at the world events.

Olympic berths were secured by Belarusian wrestlers Iryna Kurachkina, Vanesa Kaladzinskaya, Abubakar Khaslakhanau, Aryan Tsiutryn, Mahamedkhabib Kadzimahamedau, Aliaksandr Hushtyn and Dzianis Khramiankou. The World OG Qualifier in Istanbul in May 2024 will be another chance for athletes to earn Paris licenses.
