CIS Games: Beach volleyball tournament kicks off in Molodechno

MOLODECHNO, 5 August (BelTA) – The beach volleyball tournament kicked off with the preliminary matches in Molodechno, at the open-air arena in the city in Victory Park. Belarus will be represented by six teams: three men’s and three women’s, BelTA has learned.

For Molodechno, this is not the first major beach volleyball tournament. Yet, the city thoroughly prepared for the CIS Games, carried out the necessary technical work, and upgraded the press boxes, rooms for players and technical staff. The main arena is designed for 1,200 spectators. There are catering points, souvenir stands and interactive platforms for fans.

The first match day will feature four matches at once, three of which feature Belarusian athletes. Despite the early start fans are already flocking to the venue of the match.

Local resident Aleksandr Artemenko said that he has been watching beach volleyball since the open-air arena was built in Molodechno. “It’s always interesting to watch sporting events live, so that’s why I am here so early. Moreover, our teams play. I have been following beach volleyball since 2013 when our city hosted the European Youth Championship. Now we are having another major tournament. We thank the organizers for bringing competitions of this level to small cities. Who am I rooting for? Of course, for Belarus!” the fan shared his emotions.

Belarusian and Russian athletes are considered to be the favorites. The tournament will feature teams from Armenia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. The third-place matches and the final games will begin on Sunday, 6 August, at 12.30. Entry is free.
