Belarus claim three medals at start of International University Sports Festival

BREST, 22 August (BelTA) – Russia’s Yekaterinburg is hosting the International University Sports Festival featuring teams from the BRICS, SCO and CIS countries, BelTA has learned.

The first medal events took place on the third competition day of the festival. Belarusian judoka Ruslan Golovachev clinched silver in the men’s 73kg, Zhanna Osipovich finished second in the women’s 70kg, Darya Kontsevaya took bronze in the 78kg event.

Competing in the International University Sports Festival are athletes aged 17-25 from 36 countries. The total number of athletes makes up about 3,400 people. The festival will feature 193 medal events in 14 sports.

The festival will run through 1 September.
