Belarus draw with Switzerland in UEFA EURO 2024 qualifiers

MINSK, 16 October (BelTA) – Belarus drew 3-3 with Switzerland in the UEFA EURO 2024 qualifiers, BelTA has learned.

Belarus stood strong against Switzerland, the Group I leader, in a qualifying match in St Gallen on 15 October.

Xherdan Shaqiri opened the score for the hosts in the 28th minute. After the break Belarus scored three in a row through Max Ebong, Denis Polyakov and Dmitry Antilevski to take a 3-1 lead. Manuel Akanji and Zeki Amdouni managed to level it off.

In the ongoing qualifying round Belarus lost to Switzerland 0-5, won 2-1 against Kosovo, drew 0-0 with Andorra and Romania, and also lost 1-2 and 0-1 to Israel and 1-2 to Romania.

Group I standings are as follows: Switzerland – 15 points, Romania – 13, Israel – 11, Kosovo – 7, Belarus – 6, and Andorra – 2.

Two best teams from each of 10 qualifying groups will advance to the final which is due to take place in Germany in summer 2024. Three more teams will be able to qualify for the final through the UEFA Nations League. Germany, the hosting country, has automatically qualified for the UEFA Euro 2024 final tournament.
