2024 IWF World Cup kicks off in Thailand

MINSK, 1 April (BelTA) – Five Belarusian weightlifters will compete for medals of the 2024 IWF World Cup which has kicked off in Phuket, Thailand, BelTA has learned.

The event will feature more than 450 athletes from 109 countries. The Belarusian national team will comprise Petr Asayonak, Yauheni Tsikhantsou, Siarhei Sharankou, Eduard Ziaziulin, and Siuzanna Valodzka. Petr Asayonak will compete in the 89kg event on 6 April, Siuzanna Valodzka – in the 71kg on 7 April, Yauheni Tsikhantsou and Siarhei Sharankou – in the 102kg on 8 April, and Eduard Ziaziulin – in the 109kg on 11 April.

The IWF World Cup is the final qualifying event ahead of the 2024 Summer Olympics. According to the final world rankings, ten best athletes in each weight category will get Olympic licenses.

At the moment, four Belarusian weightlifters are candidates for a trip to France. Petr Asayonak currently goes 10th in the 89kg, Yauheni Tsikhantsou – 5th in the 102kg), Eduard Ziaziulin – 7th in the 109kg, Siuzanna Valodzka – 9th in the 71 kg.
