Belarus’ Khaslakhanau earns UWW Player of January honors

MINSK, 1 February (BelTA) – United World Wrestling (UWW) has posted a list of the best wrestlers following the tournaments in January 2024, BelTA learned from the UWW social networks.

Abubakar Khaslakhanau of Belarus was named the best Greco-Roman wrestler of January. In January, the Belarusian claimed the champion title in the 97kg event at the major international tournament Zagreb Open. Abubakar Khaslakhanau goes third in the 97kg world rankings, Belarusian Pavel Hlinchuk is 12th. Amir Ali Azarpira of Iran was recognized the best in freestyle, while China’s Zhou Feng – best in women’s wrestling.

Six more Belarusian athletes are in the top 10 world rankings in their weight categories. Hleb Makarenka rounds up the Top Ten in the Greco-Roman 60 kg, Kiryl Maskevich 7th in the 87kg category. Ksenia Stankevich goes sixth in women’s wrestling 50kg. Olympic qualifier Vanesa Kaladzinskaya is 2nd in the 53kg, Iryna Kurachkina – 8th in the 57kg. Tatsiana Paulava goes sixth in the 65kg.

The 2024 European Wrestling Championships are due in Romania on 12-18 February.
