Belarus’ Sasnovich loses in Jiangxi Open quarterfinal

MINSK, 20 October (BelTA) – Belarus’ world number 90 Aliaksandra Sasnovich lost to Canada’s world number 43 Leylah Fernandez, 3-6, 4-6 in the Juangxi Open quarterfinal, BelTA has learned.

The Canadian will next play Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic for a spot in the final. Earlier, Aliaksandra Sasnovich defeated world number 146 Valeria Savinykh of Russia, 6-3, 6-3. In the opener the Belarusian saw off Slovakia’s world number 113 Viktoria Hruncakova, 6-1, 6-3.

In the doubles event Aliaksandra Sasnovich and Russia’s Kamilla Rakhimova advanced to the semifinal where they will face Germany’s Laura Siegemund and Russia’s Vera Zvonareva.

In the men’s doubles semifinal in China’s Shenzhen Belarus’ Mikalai Haliak and Greece’s Markos Kalovelonis defeated Rudin Statham of New Zealand and Bejamin Lock of Zimbabwe, 7-6 (7-2), 6-2. In the final the Belarusian-Greek duo will face Chinese players Aoran Wang and Gao Xin.
