Belarus’ weightlifter Andrei Aramnau wins bronze at 2nd CIS Games

MINSK, 9 August (BelTA) – Belarus’ weightlifter Andrei Aramnau has landed in the third place at the 2nd CIS Games, BelTA has learned.

That was Andrei Aramnau’s first competition after a long break. The 35-year-old champion of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games won the 109kg weightlifting bronze. Andrei Aramnau did very well at the first two snatch attempts, but failed to lift the 172kg bar. In his first clean and jerk attempt, the Belarusian picked up 195kg, but after that failed twice to lift the 202kg bar. Dadash Dadashbeyli of Azerbaijan won gold with 393kg (177kg in snatch, 216kg in clean and jerk), Russia’s Viktor Kondratiev won silver with 381kg (176+205). Another Belarusian athlete Vladislav Sakovich finished the competitions in the fourth place with 348kg (161+187).

The last weightlifting competition in the Grodno Ice Palace will be the +109kg heavy weight event.
