Belarusian speed skaters win five medals in Russia’s Irkutsk

MINSK, 27 December (BelTA) – Belarusian athletes took part in the Russian Speed Skating Championship in Irkutsk, Russia, BelTA has learned.

The Russian championship medal events were held only for local athletes. Representatives of Belarus competed for medals as part of the Irkutsk Open international competitions. On the final day of the competitions Belarus secured two more medals. Maryna Zuyeva clocked the best time in the women’s 5,000m. This gold medal became the second one for our athlete in Irkutsk. Earlier, the Belarusian won the women’s 3,000m. The Belarusian trio of Yevgeny Gagiyev, Artsiom Chaban and Viktar Rudenka claimed bronze in the men’s sprint.

Over four competition days Belarusian speed skaters clinched five medals (two gold, two silver and one bronze). Earlier, Hanna Damaratskaya took silver medals in the women’s 500m and 1,000m.
