MINSK, 29 September (BelTA) – Belarusian athletes will be able to participate in Summer Paralympic Games in Paris in 2024 as neutral individuals. The decision was made by the General Assembly of the International Paralympic Committee in Manama, Bahrain on 29 September, BelTA learned from Chairman of Belarus’ Paralympic Committee Oleg Shepel, who took part in the assembly.

Oleg Shepel also said that now Belarusians will be able to participate in all competitions under the aegis of the International Paralympic Committee. Regretfully, Belarus’ Paralympic Committee has not been restored as a full member of the International Paralympic Committee. Oleg Shepel remarked that Belarusians retain the right to appeal to the Independent Appeals Tribunal of the International Paralympic Committee and a German court because the International Paralympic Committee is headquartered in Bonn. Oleg Shepel has also stressed that Belarusians have never violated sport laws and have always abided by the accepted rules.

The International Paralympic Committee has also allowed Russians to participate in the Summer Paralympic Games 2024 as neutral athletes.

The 17th Paralympic Games will take place in Paris on 28 August – 8 September 2024.
