Belarus’ Yegor Gerasimov progresses to Astana Open second round

MINSK, 28 September (BelTA) – Belarus’ Yegor Gerasimov, ranked 661st in the world, has advanced to the Astana Open round two, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian defeated world number 72 Bernabe Zapata of Spain, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 in the round of Last 32. Yegor Gerasimov will next face world number 29 Jiri Lehecka of the Czech Republic for a place in the quarterfinal.

Yegor Gerasimov reached the main draw after defeating Belgium’s world number 172 Zizou Bergs, 6-4, 6-4, and proving stronger over world number 80 Alexandre Muller of France, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3).

In the doubles opener Yegor Gerasimov and Kazakhstan’s Mikhail Kukushkin will face Robin Haase and Botic van de Zandschulp of the Netherlands.

The tournament in the capital of Kazakhstan will be over on 3 October.
