CIS Games: Uzbekistan’s handball players training, getting to know Brest

BREST, 4 August (BelTA) – Uzbekistan’s handball players are training and getting familiar with the sights of Brest ahead of the start of the handball tournament at the 2nd CIS Games, head coach of the men’s national handball team Ulugbek Ikramov shared his impressions in an interview to BelTA.

Handball players of Uzbekistan’s men’s and women’s junior teams have already held two training sessions at Victoria sports center. “The arena meets international standards. It has everything one might need to train and play. The court is very cozy and has a great design. We would like Uzbekistan to have such an arena,” Ulugbek Ikramov said.

The Uzbekistan delegation also visited Brest Stadium. The tour over Brest will also include an indoor football arena and other sports facilities. “We are going to adopt your practices. Uzbekistan is moving forward in terms of developing its sports infrastructure,” the handball coach said.

Uzbekistan’s representatives find an opportunity to get to know the city in which they are going to compete for medals at the 2nd CIS Games. “We took a look around the city. It is very beautiful. Yesterday we had an excursion to the Brest Fortress. We knew about it a little, and during the tour we learned more about the history. It was very interesting. We walked along Sovetskaya Street, saw a lamplighter – huge respect to such people. We get great pleasure from Brest, from Belarus,” he said. “People are very hospitable, we quickly became friends with everyone. Thank you for such an organization. We have something new every day. It’s very nice. I can’t simply express all my emotions with words.”

Visitors also enjoy getting familiar with Belarusian cuisine. “We have tried a lot of dishes, everything is delicious. Yesterday we ate draniki – this dish is simply great. I have never eaten it before. It is very tasty, I even asked for the recipe,” the Uzbekistan handball coach said.

The handball tournament of the 2nd CIS Games is due on 5-9 August. Four men’s and women’s junior teams from Belarus, Russia, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan will compete for medals.
