Minister: Belarus will send its strongest roster to 2024 BRICS Games

MINSK, 14 August (BelTA) – Belarus will field its strongest roster at the 2024 BRICS Games, Belarusian Sport and Tourism Minister Sergei Kovalchuk said in an interview to ONT TV channel on 13 August, BelTA has learned.

Kazan, Russia is expected to host the BRICS Games in June 2024. “I think we will field our best roster at these competitions,” Sergei Kovalchuk said.

The minister is confident that future belongs to the CIS Games, BRICS Games, and SCO Games. “This is half of the globe. If these countries welcome others as we did during the 2nd CIS Games (22 countries took part in the event), I am sure that these competitions will gain popularity in the same way,” he added.

Sergei Kovalchuk was asked about his attitude to athletes competing as neutrals. “The most important thing amid these conditions is the attitude towards your country, your people,” the minister said. “Whether you perform under your flag or without it, it is important how you treat your country, the people who root for you. You are still a Belarusian regardless of the competitions you compete in. You should always remember about it, you should be proud of it and represent the country the best way you can at any competitions.”
