Minsk ready to host 2nd CIS Games

MINSK, 5 July (BelTA) – Sport venues and the infrastructure of the capital city are fully ready for hosting the 2nd CIS Games, BelTA learned from Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee Vladimir Kukharev.

Vladimir Kukharev said: “One can say with confidence that sport venues are fully ready and the entire infrastructure is also well-prepared. I am convinced that Minsk residents eagerly look forward to these competitions. There are very many fans of various sports in the city.”

The Minsk mayor noted that young Belarusians also take interest in sport. “I have no doubts that the 2nd CIS Games will give a serious nudge to the popularization of various sports among young people,” he said.

Vladimir Kukharev said he was confident that everything had been done in the capital city to allow fans and participants of the competitions to get only the most positive impressions from the games. “We are completely ready for the Games and look forward to them,” he added.

The official remarked that fan zones and cultural events will be prepared for Minsk guests. “A great deal of amateur artistic events will take place. We are already preparing to organize the recreation of the fans, who will be able to properly rest after sport competitions,” he concluded.

Prominent athletes gathered outside the Sports Palace in Minsk to push a symbolic button that started a countdown to the 2nd CIS Games, which are scheduled to begin in one month. Prior to that the athletes and top officials of the Belarusian Sports and Tourism Ministry had taken part in a cycling race.
