No IOC invitation to Paris Olympics for Belarus on 26 July

MINSK, 13 July (BelTA) – The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will invite national Olympic committees to France’s capital on 26 July, exactly one year before the 2024 Summer Olympics will open in Paris. However, Belarus and Russia will not get invitations on that day, BelTA learned from the IOC press service.

The International Olympic Committee’s decision has been prompted by the IOC’s sanctions against Belarusian and Russian athletes due to the conflict in Ukraine.

The International Olympic Committee also noted that the decision on participation of Belarusians and Russians in the 2024 Summer Olympics and the 2026 Winter Olympics will be made later.

As many as 203 national Olympic committees out of the 206 ones that are members of the IOC will get their invitations to participate in the 2024 Summer Olympics on 26 July 2023. In addition to Belarus and Russia Guatemala will not get an invitation because its national Olympic committee was suspended in autumn 2022 due to internal problems.
