Smolski secures gold hat trick at Commonwealth Cup in Raubichi

MINSK, 8 January (BelTA) – Belarus’ Raubichi played host to the third leg of the 2023/24 Commonwealth Biathlon Cup on 5-7 January, BelTA has learned.

The event featured the best biathletes from Belarus and Russia. The program of the final competition day opened with the Men’s 15km Mass Start. Belarus’ Anton Smolski, the total score leader, clocked the best time to clinch the third victory in the tournament. The Belarusian made one penalty in the second and third shooting stages each to reach the last standing stage in the seventh position. Anton Smolski jumped to second place after cleaning the last standing stage and outran Russia’s Rustam Kayumov on the final lap. Karim Khalili finished third.

Anton Smolski completed a hat trick of gold medals as he won all three events (sprint, pursuit, and mass start) in Raubichi. Anton Smolski is expected to wear the yellow bib as he travels to Russia’s Murmansk in April for the final leg of the Commonwealth Cup. 

As for the results of the other Belarusian athletes in Mass Start, Maksim Varabei finished 7th, Dzmitry Lazouski – 12th, Ivan Tulatin – 14th, Ilya Auseyenka – 15th, Pavel Belko – 19th, Raman Yaliotnau – 23rd, Stsiapan Danilau, Mikita Labastau, Aliaksandr Haliak and Aliaksandr Koshyn placed 26th to 29th out of 30 participants.
