Swimmers from Belarus, Russia compete at Liza Chaikina Memorial Tournament

MINSK, 21 June (BelTA) – The Liza Chaikina Memorial Tournament is underway in Minsk’s Yantar swimming pool. The tournament was first held in 1981 to celebrate Soviet Union Hero Liza Chaikina, BelTA has learned.

The first competition day comprises backstroke (50m), breaststroke (100m) freestyle (100m), and butterfly (50m) events. The second competition day will feature preliminary and final heats in 200m medley. The final competition day, 23 June, will include breaststroke (50m), freestyle (50m), backstroke (100m) and butterfly (100m) events. Taking part in the tournament are 400 girls and boys aged 11-14. Apart from Belarusians, competing at the tournament are swimmers from Nizhny Novgorod, Pyatigorsk and Yartsevsky District of Smolensk Oblast, Russia.

The tournament has been organized by the Minsk City Hall, the Sports and Tourism Ministry, the Presidential Sports Club and the Belarusian Swimming Federation.
