Averbukh: People come to ice shows for emotions

MINSK, 19 March (BelTA) – In a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel the producer of ice shows, stage director Ilya Averbukh spoke about the things that impress the audiences during ice shows.

“People come to watch an ice show for two reasons. On the one hand, you can switch gears and forget about everyday life. An ice show implies various elements. There are entertaining ones, let’s say in the form of circus tricks. A somersault on the ice or a high lift is a trick, and the audiences love it. They admire it and do not understand how the guys do it,” Ilya Averbukh said when asked why the audiences need such shows.

“Secondly, and this is probably a more important task for me, is the integrity of the program. Every performance has a meaning. We want the viewers to laugh, to rejoice, or feel sad, or, maybe, teary. People come to experience emotions. It is the emotions that we give them, the feeling of belonging, because great athletes come out on the ice in front of them. These are athletes who once were the best on the entire planet. Of course, this makes people happy.”

Ilya Averbukh gushed Belarusian spectators. “Belarusian audiences are always very grateful. They do not shy to share their love and applause. The athletes feel it on the ice and respond to it by skating even better,” Ilya Averbukh said.
