OZARICHI, 19 March (BelTA) – No other country in the world witnessed such violence, cruelty, and genocide as Belarus during the Great Patriotic War, Belarusian Prosecutor General Andrei Shved said during a commemorative ceremony dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of prisoners of the Ozarichi death camp, BelTA has learned.
“The Prosecutor General’s Office has been investigating the criminal case of the genocide of the Belarusian people for more than two years. This case, which was launched with the support of the president, shows that each of the 1,133 days of occupation was a day of violence, murder and torture. We should never forget these days,” the Prosecutor General emphasized.
He noted that during the years of occupation, the Nazis burned and destroyed, completely or partially, more than 12,200 settlements. More than 580 death camps were set up on the territory of Belarus. “No country in the world was ever subjected to such violence, cruelty and genocide as Belarus,” Andrei Shved stressed.
As the Prosecutor General recalled, Belarus is gearing up to mark an important date – the 80th anniversary of the country’s liberation from the Nazi invaders. “Today, more than ever, it is important to rally together. It is more important than ever to fight for our truth, for justice,” the Prosecutor General said. “Blessed is the memory of all those who were tortured and executed in the most barbaric ways here and in thousands of other places. We should honor their memory and be proud of our country.”
