MINSK, 20 September (BelTA) – The National Olympic Committee hosted the educational seminar to discuss the scientific basis of longevity in sport, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian NOC.

The seminar was organized by the Medical and Anti-Doping Commission of the NOC of Belarus together with the National Research Center for Sports. The event brought together more than 170 students, including professional athletes and coaches, members of the NOC Athletes’ Commission and representatives of the Belarusian State University of Physical Culture and the Higher School of Coaches.

“Now is a good time to pay more attention to the training of athletes and to the issues that will help develop a career and that are closely related to elite sport. The knowledge gained during the seminar will definitely make the athletes stronger, since big victories consist of inconspicuous, at first glance, nuances,” NOC Acting Secretary General Kseniya Sankovich said.

The leading experts of the National Research Center for Sports talked about nutrition, training, rehydration and sleep programs. Attention was also paid to functional dentistry, muscle microdamage syndrome and the influence of circadian rhythms on athletic performance.

“I hope that we helped our athletes to learn more through dialogue and discussions in the expert-athlete format. I really liked that the participants were actively involved, took pictures, performed tests. We, the organizers, tried very hard and provided a lot of information, taking into account current trends,” said Irina Malevanaya, Director of the National Research Center for Sports, head of the NOC medical and anti-doping commission.

The educational seminar was first held last year as a pilot joint project of the National Research Center for Sports and the NOC of Belarus. The event aroused great interest among athletes, and a decision was made to hold the seminar on an annual basis.
