CIS Games: Rhythmic gymnastics tournament opens with group event

MINSK, 4 August (BelTA) – The rhythmic gymnastics tournament opened the 2nd CIS Games in Minsk on 4 August, BelTA has learned.

Competing are 65 athletes from ten countries: Belarus, Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Malaysia, Cuba, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. The tournament will feature nine medal events.

“Competitions of such a level and scale are always a great responsibility and huge work. This is a celebration and evidence of further development of athletes, national sports schools and sport in general. There will be many great rivals and talents and reasons for admiration,” chief competition judge Yekaterina Belyavskaya said.

First Deputy Head of the Belarus President Administration Maksim Ryzhenkov stressed that rhythmic gymnastics is a great sport that unites true connoisseurs. “Minsk will spend next three days as a capital of this great sport of international importance. Rhythmic gymnastics will give a bright start to the 2nd CIS Games,” Maksim Ryzhenkov said.

The program of today’s competition day comprises group and individual (ball and hoop) events. Seven teams from Malaysia, Azerbaijan, Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan will compete in rope exercises.
