World Taekwondo approves nine Belarusian athletes for world championships in Baku

MINSK, 23 May (BelTA) – World Taekwondo Federation has approved the participation of nine athletes from Belarus in the upcoming World Taekwondo Championships in Baku, BelTA learned from Inside the Games.

In early April, World Taekwondo decided to allow Belarusians and Russians as neutral athletes to participate in international tournaments. Today, the federation approved the list of nine individual athletes from Belarus and 14 from Russia for Baku 2023 World Taekwondo Championships, provided they sign a declaration of full compliance for participation.

Among the Belarusian athletes approved for the tournament are Ali Radvan, Artsiom Plonis, Ivan Paulouski, Maksim Bandarevich, Georgy Gurtsiyev, Yahor Kazlou, Uladzislava Sarokina, Valeriya Smychkova and Vitaliya Lazuta. Each neutral athlete underwent a three-step verification process, including verification by the European Taekwondo Union, personal confirmation by the athlete and a final evaluation by the World Taekwondo Supervisory Committee.

Baku 2023 World Taekwondo Championships will take place from 29 May to 4 June. The sporting forum in the capital of Azerbaijan will be one of the qualifying events for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
